Overview
Pancreatic diseases are among the most common gastrointestinal disorders, yet there remains substantial variability in their diagnosis and management across clinical settings. This course is designed to provide practical, real-world education for clinicians both nationally and internationally, with the goal of improving patient outcomes in pancreatic care.
Led by experienced medical pancreatologists who direct multidisciplinary pancreas programs at their respective institutions, the course brings together a diverse group of world-renowned faculty. Participants will benefit from insights shaped by clinical expertise and multidisciplinary collaboration, with content specifically developed to address recognized knowledge gaps in the care of patients with pancreatic disorders.
The program is intended for a broad audience, including Harvard Medical School (HMS) affiliates, community providers, and academic clinicians seeking advanced, in-depth knowledge. Faculty selection reflects a strong commitment to diversity, in alignment with the HMS Diversity Statement, ensuring representation across gender, race/ethnicity, disability, and other groups underrepresented in medicine. The course also features a global perspective, with international faculty from across Europe, alongside significant contributions from HMS-affiliated experts.
Key topics include acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, pancreatic tumors, pancreatic cysts, and pediatric pancreatology. This second edition introduces updated content and emerging concepts in pancreatology, offering fresh insights beyond the inaugural program.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss management of acute pancreatitis based on randomized clinical trial results.
- Apply the best evidence-based management of uncommon conditions such as pancreas divisum, pancreatitis in pregnant women, and autoimmune pancreatitis.
- Discuss the available data on the natural history of pancreatic cysts and to learn about management appropriate to the risk of malignancy.
- Identify the management of autoimmune pancreatitis based on evidence from observational studies and the experience of centers with a high volume of patients with this disease.
