Overview

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent and impairing neurodevelopmental disorder that affects individuals across the lifespan. A majority of children with ADHD will have waxing and waning symptoms and functional impairment that persists into adolescence and adulthood.  Accurate diagnosis, assessment of comorbid conditions, differential diagnosis, and evidence-based psychological and medication treatment can all be challenging in clinical practice but are critical to achieving the best patient outcomes.

Our popular course will address these challenges by providing clinicians with guidelines for best practice, an update on new evidence, and training in how to optimize assessment and care for patients with ADHD. Our expert faculty will provide new insights and practical tools for working with ADHD and comorbid substance use, disordered eating, and sleep disorders, in addition to management of multiplex families in which both parents and children have ADHD. Participants will leave with up-to-date knowledge and tools ready for implementation in practice. We welcome all mental health and primary care providers to join us!

Learning Objectives

  • Apply updated diagnostic criteria and tools for identifying ADHD across different age and population groups.
  • Review current, new and emerging pharmacologic treatments for ADHD.
  • List the key elements of the STAND treatment model for adolescents with ADHD.
  • Summarize the prevalence of ADHD co-occurring with substance use, and current guidelines for starting and managing treatment.
  • Discuss the latest guidance on the use of melatonin and sleep training to manage the sleep disorders that present in ADHD.
  • Articulate several factors that may predispose individuals with ADHD to develop an eating disorder, and best practices for treatment.
  • Describe the challenges and opportunities that arise within a multiplex ADHD family.
