What made you interested in taking HMX courses?
Throughout my diverse career across various industries, one ultimate goal has remained constant, the improvement of public health. HMX courses are very much related to public health. Considering my academic background, experience in research and health care settings, I wanted to strengthen my knowledge in the drug discovery area.
What were you most hoping to learn in the HMX courses?
I was hoping for a comprehensive insight on drug development. Starting from the discovery to its launch in the market, I wanted to understand the processes, and all the steps involved. I also wanted to learn about the latest scientific advancements and the innovations in this area. I found the core structure very appealing and thought this is something I would be interested in learning.
What about HMX courses made you stay engaged?
The course was exceptionally well-structured, divided into modules that covered a wide range of valuable concepts and insights. The platform itself was fantastic, serving as an excellent learning tool. The handouts and the materials define the clear objective of the modules. It was easy to navigate and to get perspective on what was going to be covered and how it was going to be relevant.
The faculty members delivered highly engaging content, bringing years of experience and deep knowledge to the course. This made the course not only informative but also captivating, which is crucial for virtual learning. It was also good that modules were divided across 10 weeks, so I had time to balance my personal and professional life.
What did you find most useful about the courses?
I particularly enjoyed the discussion among the faculty members, industry experts and clinicians, as they reflect on the past, present and future of drug development, it was insightful. Moreover, the patient stories adds a real-world dimension to the theoretical knowledge, making the learning more impactful.
The assessment was also interesting because it was focused on checking the conceptual understanding, not just memorizing the notes. It forced me to think and reflect on what I learned and how it can address problems, making the learning process both challenging and rewarding. This approach significantly enhanced the overall learning experience.
Have you applied your learning from this course to your work?
Since I recently took this course, I have not had much of a chance to fully integrate it into my day-to-day work. However, even though I’ve been in this area for a long time, the course offers and strengthens my knowledge of translation – how you can translate any discoveries or research into benefits. It has also helped me strengthen my communication with external stakeholders because many of them are health care professionals. Having the understanding they have makes our engagement richer.
I think it’s a lifelong journey of learnings and this is one of the elements that I need to consider and keep going on.
Would you recommend this course to a colleague or a friend?
Absolutely. I believe this is one of the best designed, well executed courses. It may not address all the questions one might have but it certainly offers learnings to open up and explore different areas and topics that you could use to connect the dots.
