Overview
Heart Failure Summit, accredited by Harvard Medical School, will offer a one-day overview of all aspects of heart failure management from outpatient monitoring to left ventricular assist device implantation and cardiac transplantation. Faculty from multiple disciplines will review current guidelines and potential therapies for advanced heart failure. The course will provide case studies illustrating different approaches to pharmacological and device management. Participants will also hear patient and caregiver perspectives on therapies for advanced heart failure.
Learning Objectives
- Outline current outpatient management strategies for advanced heart failure including novel pharmacologic treatments, home monitoring, and advanced care planning.
- Review current pharmacologic approaches to treatment and their practical implementation in patients with cardiomyopathy.
- Discuss representative case examples to demonstrate the use of mechanical support, including ventricular assist devices (VADs) to improve survival and quality of life as a bridge to transplant (BTT) or destination therapy (DT).
- Review innovative techniques, surgical considerations, and expected outcomes for patients undergoing heart transplantation.
- Share patient and caregiver perspectives on living with advanced heart failure.
