Overview

This comprehensive workshop is designed for trained and in-training cardiac anesthesiologists, echocardiographers, and interventionalists focusing on 3-dimensional echocardiography. In this interactive course the participants will experience comprehensive education on the 3-dimensional echocardiography. The workshop focuses on mastering the principals, acquisition, and interpretation of 3D echocardiographic imaging for cardiac procedures. This will include a comprehensive overview of knobology and the differences in nomenclature across various echocardiography systems.

The workshop aims to enhance skills in physics of 3-dimensional imaging, various steps to acquire 3 dimensional datasets, optimization of 3D imaging, and multiplanar reformatting. The workshop will cover mitral, tricuspid, and aortic valvular 3D imaging and assessments, left and right ventricular volumetric assessments, and measurement of dimensions of various cardiac structures pertaining to different procedures. The interactive educational sessions will be supplemented by live workshop with instructions and demonstrations. The course will include lectures by faculty, case presentations, and expert faculty discussions in a virtual, live streamed setting.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the basic fundamentals of ultrasound physics and how it applies to 3D imaging, image formation, transducer design, and advanced topics such as multiplanar reconstruction.
  • Use advanced concepts of 3D imaging such as multiplanar reconstruction.
  • Learn the complex anatomy of the intra-atrial septum and key imaging relating to trans-septal puncture with didactic lectures, and also case examples with panel discussion.
  • Acquire an in-depth understanding of imaging required for procedures involving the mitral valve, tricuspid valve, and left atrial appendage.
