About

Vineet Raghu is a computer scientist and Assistant Professor of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He completed his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Pittsburgh in 2019 where his thesis research focused on developing algorithms to analyze genomic sequencing data to identify genomic causes of cancer progression. He completed a T32 research fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at MGH in 2021 during which he developed artificial intelligence tools to estimate lung cancer risk and biological age from routine chest x-ray images.

Vineet now leads a machine learning research group that develops tools to predict disease risk and biological age from common imaging tests (e.g., chest x-ray, retinal fundoscopy, chest computed tomography, and dual-energy absorptiometry images) with the goal of identifying patients who may benefit from targeted preventive care. The group also develops machine learning tools to quantify image-derived phenotypes (body composition, organ volumes, etc.) for use in genetic and epidemiological studies. Beyond his research, Vineet teaches data science and introductory programming at Boston University’s Metropolitan College.
