Dr. R. Andrew Taylor, MD, MHS, is a physician-scientist double-boarded in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics and currently serves as Professor of Emergency Medicine and Vice Chair of Research and Innovation at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on the development, evaluation, and real-world implementation of trustworthy, community-informed AI in acute and serious illness care, spanning the full AI lifecycle from problem formulation and data preparation to fairness auditing, EHR integration, deployment, and ongoing monitoring. He has served as PI, Co-Investigator, or technical lead on multiple federally funded projects (including NIDA, NIA, NINDS, and AHRQ-supported efforts) and has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications applying AI, machine learning and NLP to real-world EHR data in domains such as triage, serious infection, opioid use, and sepsis.
