Do HMX and HealthXcelerate certificates convey Harvard Medical School credit?

No, we do not award credit for these courses.

What criteria are used for HMX certificates?

Participation in assessments and course material, including a final exam, determine whether a student qualifies for a certificate.

Certificate of Completion - Successfully completed all course requirements.
No certificate - Did not complete the coursework required to earn a certificate.
Certificate of Achievement - Met minimum score requirements. Please note this certificate is no longer offered as of 2026.

Earning a certificate requires significant effort, and not all participants will meet that level. Letter grades (A, B, C, and so on) are not awarded.

What criteria are used for HealthX certificates?

To earn a HealthXcelerate individual certificate, learners must complete all required course material.

To earn a certificate for HealthXcelerate: Strategy, Policy, and Systems, learners must complete all course material in the six course bundle.

Are transcripts provided?

Formal transcripts are not provided for HMX and HealthXcelerate courses.

I have a certificate without a Document ID. Is the certificate valid?

Certificates for HMX Fundamentals and Pro courses issued before August 2020 do not have Document IDs. To validate a certificate without a Document ID, please contact onlinelearning@hms.harvard.edu.
