Overview

This six-session livestream/virtual course provides physicians and interdisciplinary professionals with an integrated, lifespan-oriented approach to autism and neurodiversity. The curriculum connects developmental neuroscience, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, medical and psychiatric co-occurring conditions, multimodal assessment, functional support, education, rehabilitation, family-centered care, lifespan transitions, genetics, and emerging research. Through expert lectures and case-based discussion, participants will learn to distinguish established clinical practices from research-stage innovations and apply evidence-based, neurodiversity-informed principles to support more coordinated and individualized care across childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

Learning Objectives

  • Integrate developmental neuroscience, clinical assessment, co-occurring conditions, functional needs, and family priorities into individualized autism care.
  • Develop coordinated referral and management strategies across medical, psychiatric, educational, rehabilitation, and community settings.
  • Apply lifespan- and neurodiversity-informed principles to support autonomy, participation, and quality of life.
  • Distinguish established clinical practices from research-stage biomarkers and emerging interventions.
  • Differentiate autism-related features from common co-occurring developmental, psychiatric, and medical conditions.
  • Recognize frequently overlooked co-occurring conditions across the lifespan.
  • Develop coordinated referral and management strategies involving appropriate medical, psychiatric, developmental, and rehabilitation services.
  • Incorporate functional and behavioral presentation into a broader clinical formulation rather than attributing all difficulties to autism.
  • Distinguish established clinical assessment tools from research-stage biomarkers and technologies.
  • Interpret the potential clinical relevance and limitations of genetics, EEG/ERP, eye tracking, autonomic measures, digital biomarkers, and AI approaches in autism.
  • Evaluate emerging brain–gut–immune, microbiome, metabolic, and precision-medicine research with appropriate caution.
  • Incorporate ethical considerations, equity, bias, and data governance when evaluating emerging technologies.
  • Communicate the difference between promising research and clinically validated approaches to patients, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues.
