Andrew Beam, PhD is an expert in machine learning for biology and medicine, and is an associate professor in the Dept. of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.  Dr. Beam also currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Lila Sciences, Inc., a new company that is developing new AI methods for scientific discovery. Previously as a Senior Fellow at Flagship Pioneering, Dr. Beam led machine learning activities at Flagship-backed companies including Generate:Biomedicines, a company using AI to improve the ability to engineer therapeutic proteins. Dr. Beam also has made foundational contributions to the use of AI in medicine as co-founder and deputy editor of NEJM AI, a publication from the New England Journal of Medicine focused on medical AI and cohost of the podcast NEJMA AI Grand Rounds.
